Senior Dating Options

I’ve never approached the dating scene from a senior’s point of view. We usually talk a lot of dating of young people, but what about those who want to find happiness at the age of 50 or above? If that’s your case and you want to know your options, read below.

Adapt yourself – You must realize that the world changes. The dating world has changed too. You probably had your dates when you were in your twenties and a lot have changed since then. Try to observe what others are doing and adjust yourself to the methods.

Internet – Internet is a great way to find singles of any age group. Learn the basics, learn how to set up a good profile, with good pictures and learn how to search and contact those who interest you. I’ve heard great stories about people who met over the internet, and it’s usual nowadays to find happy couples who met each other on singles sites.

The “old” Coffee Date – If you find someone of interest at any place, invite them for a quick coffee at your local coffee shop. If you find them interesting, ask them again until you feel comfortable to invite them for something more serious. If you don’t get what you want at least you met someone new, and that someone can hook you up with their friends.

Hobbies – It’s never too late to learn something new, and we all have our passions. Maybe you like books, then join a book group, or maybe you collect stamps, etc. Try to find a group who likes the same things you do. Be a volunteer for an organization or find someone with whom you can travel.

It may feel a little awkward to get back on the dating game again after so many years, but you’re not alone, believe me. There are a lot of people who are divorced or widowed feeling alone and waiting for someone to have fun and to share life. As always, try to have fun while you’re dating, even if it’s not the right person, the important thing is to have fun and make new friends until you strike gold. Good luck.

I’ve found this article and decided to post it here for you guys. These are some examples of things that work in real life. Enjoy and learn:

“One of the sexiest things a boyfriend ever did for me was serenade me. He was just a pretty good singer and an OK guitar player, but one night with the lights down low, he sang to me. My heart just melted. If you can sing at all, that is a sure way to a woman’s heart!”

    - Shannon L., San Rafael, Calif.

“Surprise her. I started seeing someone recently. I work from home, so one afternoon last week, the doorbell rings, which is normal because FedEx delivers a few times a week. But when I answered the door, I had a surprise lunch delivery from a nearby cafe and potted flowers. From my guy! How sweet! It’s a great feeling when you know someone is thinking about you. Unfortunately, when the doorbell rang this week, it was the UPS guy (who is cute, but not my type).”

    - D., San Jose

“Men, you should go out of your way, find something that’s special to your girlfriend, and surprise her with it. Once, my boyfriend wrote me a beautiful invitation for a date. He said the evening, which was my birthday, was going to be a surprise. We drove 90 minutes to my hometown and checked into a hotel. We had a very nice dinner and went for a walk around town. One of my favorite singers was playing at the local theater. Sure enough, he had gotten us great seats for the concert. It was the most romantic and best date I’ve ever had.”

    - M. & M., Kirkland, Wash.

“It’s important for a guy to show genuine interest. Not just interest because you want to hook up, but because you really want to get to know her.”

    - Alison, Northfield, Minn.

“Never underestimate the power of romance to win the girl. My husband and I started dating right at the end of the Colorado ski season. I had spent the season working in Colorado and had decided to move there from California permanently. So I left Colorado to go home to pack up my things. Every day for that month I got something in the mail from my boyfriend. He sent a pine bough, some snow - admittedly melted - in a Ziploc baggie, some dirt from the town where we live, and many, many postcards. It kept him in my mind while we were apart.”

    - Andrea Cox, Grand Lake, Colo.

“Take off all clothing while having sex. One time I looked down and saw he was still wearing socks, black, standard-issue socks, though nothing else. I don’t know why it struck me as ridiculous, but it did.”

    - Bette Crawford, Philadelphia
