The leaves are falling. The temperature is going down. The Night is coming earlier. It’s the perfect time for you to fall in love!

Try these six fall date ideas to put a little spice into the cooler days and nights.

  • Take a leaf tour;

There’s something tender about trees full of rustling reds and golds, and you don’t have to use a tank of gas to see them. Go to your local park, walk down your town’s best avenue, and look at New England online. If you can’t see the leaves turn, then do a good turn together and rake leaves for an elderly person or shut-in (check with your local volunteer coordinating agency for suggestions.)

  • Go to the local homecoming parade;

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know anybody in the school. What else can make you feel 16 again like an out-of-tune marching band and floats made of tissue paper and baling wire? Take a date and catch the spirit.

  • Hit the local fall festival;

Every city has at least one. Check your local paper or call city hall. Play a game, win a bear, and impress your date. Then top it off with a glass of cold cider and a hot kiss.

  • Bob for apples;

Nothing gets you ready for that first kiss like bumping chins while you’re bobbing for apples. There’s no need to wait for a Halloween festival — this is enjoyable for a party of two as well. Buy a washtub, some apples and some dish towels. It’s as much fun to dry each other off afterwards as it is to bob together.

  • Carve a pumpkin;

Show off your artistic talent — or draw a picture of your ex — while you’re carving a scary face on a pumpkin. You’re too old to trick or treat, but you’re not too old to decorate in the spirit of the season.

  • Trick or treat;

Did we say you were too old to trick or treat? Plan a night of costumes with you and your significant other and see what kind of magic develops!
