The truth is that all of those profiles are nothing but a fake. Most of the profiles are even set up by men who rip off the photos from the internet. The objective of this scheme is to get your money by referring you to one of these paying sites and make you sign up. The person who referred you is going to earn a percentage of what you spend on the site.

If you sign up for a free dating site you won’t find any of these, because the service is free, so there’s no need to fake profiles in order for you to register. So by registering to free sites you’re already taking two advantages:

1. You will not find fake profiles;
2. You will avoid people who are just looking for one night stands.

The other advantage you get from signing up with a free site is related to the quality of the service. The big “money making” dating sites have hundreds of people working for them. It’s like a normal industry. On a paying site you get to deal with an unconcerned person who is simply worried with his referral profits. On the contrary, free sites are generally managed by 2 or 3 individuals, usually the founders of the service, and that website is their job. You can make an analogy between local shops and malls. Ask yourself, where would you get the most personalized service?

Is your potential date lying?

The best way to avoid fake profiles on the internet is to filter the profiles with more than one photo. If you ignore the profiles with just one photo you will avoid a lot of fakes. You’ll probably eliminate some real people by doing this, and you’ll find fake profiles with more than one photo, but it will pay out in the end.

A good method to confirm that someone is who they actually say they are is to ask them to send you a different photo. If someone is genuinely interested in you then they will make the effort.
